The Kittens Stay!

One of my favorite websites is Letters of Note. Today they have a letter from Mark Twain which he posted permanently on his front door after his home was burgled in 1908.
That’s the signpost up ahead…

If you are a major Twilight Zone fan, you can be my friend. Rod Serling and that entire original series rocked my world. But even if you are not a geeked out follower of the show, you will probably enjoy the episode called “The Hunt”. Rod Serling opens the show thusly:
An old man and a hound named Rip, off for an evening’s pleasure in quest of raccoon. Usually, these evenings end with one tired old man, one battle-scarred hound dog, and one or more extremely dead raccoons; but as you may suspect, that will not be the case tonight. These hunters won’t be coming home from the hill. They’re headed for the backwoods of the Twilight Zone.
It’s a sappy story so well done that you don’t even mind. Some of the things I enjoyed from the episode:
- Dogs belong in the house, not outside by themselves.
- Dogs get fed from the owner’s plate.
- Dogs aren’t impressed by liars.
- It is well worth reciprocating a dog’s loyalty.
Watch it here. Enjoy.

H/T to They are What They Eat
One of my Favorite Things is looking at old dog photos. I came across a collection on Photobucket of some good ones:
Flatcoated Retriever photos
Beagle photos
Saluki photos (another breed on my wish list)
and another of my fetishes: old clippings about what people fed dogs before the invention of commercial dog food
